Rob Elliot said he has no concerns over David Ajiboye despite the winger’s enforced substitution - but things are less clear on Kenton Richardson.
Ajiboye had to go off with a knock in the second half of Carlisle United’s 4-1 win against Hornchurch. Head coach Elliot said it was nothing to worry about - though defender Richardson will be assessed after he was withdrawn from the team sheet in the build-up.
On Ajiboye, United’s boss said: “He took a whack and I think he just seized up with that.” Asked if it was any sort of bigger concern, Elliot replied: “No, nothing at all.”
Richardson, having made his debut as a substitute against Yeovil Town the previous weekend following a spell out in pre-season, was forced back onto the sidelines on Saturday.
The summer signing was initially named among Carlisle’s subs but then saw his place in the squad taken by Hayden Atkinson.
“He woke up this morning and I got told he was a bit stiff and sore,” Elliot told the News & Star.
“So we didn’t even take the risk. We’re not in the position where we need to take the risk. We’ve got young Hayden there, who we really like, and we wanted Hayden in there because I think if you need someone to go and head it, Hayden would head brick walls for this club.
“We’ll assess Kenton and see how he is but I think sometimes it’s better to play on the side of precaution and then assess from there.”
