Carlisle United fans are being asked to wear their classic shirts for the club's upcoming Retro Kit Day. The event is scheduled for the National League home fixture against Southend United at Brunton Park on Saturday, September 12.
Organised by the Carlisle United Supporters’ Trust in partnership with the Carlisle United Heritage Group and the club itself, the initiative aims to celebrate the Blues' history. This follows a successful first event held on April 1, 2024, during a League One match against Lincoln City. The club enters this season on a strong footing, having finished third in the final 2025 National League table with 95 points from 46 games.
Fans judged to be wearing the best old-school Carlisle shirts will receive a prize. They will also get the opportunity to take part in the club's Big Shot challenge at half-time. A collection of vintage and match-worn shirts will be on display, including specific examples from 1982 and the 1992/93 season.
Carlisle fan James Stringer outlined the plans. "We will have a collection of vintage and match-worn shirts that will be displayed in the Trust’s gazebo located at the ground," he said. Supporters can follow the Heritage Group's activities on their Facebook page.
The retro celebration comes as the club prepares for a new campaign. Their final 2025 league record showed 29 wins, 8 draws, and 9 losses, with a recent form of three wins and two draws. They scored 87 goals last season while conceding 51, resulting in a +36 goal difference. Fans can track the team's progress this year on the official standings page.
Trust chair Dan MacLennan reflected on the event's origins. "We did the first Retro Kit Day a couple of years ago, and it was a success," he noted. The hope is to build on that positive reception. The club's attacking prowess last term, netting 87 times, provides a hopeful backdrop for the new season's entertainment.
For those planning their matchday, the full fixtures list is available online. A subscription offer for supporters is also available, priced at £6 for six months or a full year at half price. This season, Carlisle will be looking to close a 13-point gap on leaders York from the previous campaign.
Detailed player statistics and records from last season are accessible on the club's stats portal. The Retro Kit Day offers a chance to blend past and present, celebrating the club's heritage as it start another National League journey. The next home game after Southend is a key part of the early-season schedule.
