Carlisle United boss Rob Elliot expects Gabe Breeze’s future to be resolved “in the next couple of days”. The Blues goalkeeper is being strongly linked with Cambridge United amid reports that a fee has been agreed. Elliot stopped short of confirming that a deal is done for Breeze’s sale but the head coach said things are likely to be clearer soon. It is anticipated Cumbrian keeper Breeze will move on from Brunton Park, with Gateshead’s Adam Desbois believed to be United’s top choice to replace him. Elliot did not comment on the prospect of a move for the latter but admitted the goalkeeping situation was set to come to a head soon. “I think over the next couple of days I’m sure it will get resolved one way or another,” said United's head coach. “We’ll see how that unfolds, but there’s no real stress from this end on it.” Elliot did not address the specific claims that a fee has been agreed but said that business will only be done if it suits all parties. “Hopefully this week we'll be able to get something resolved but, being brutally honest, I think the reason that this is probably prolonged is because there's not really any rush from us,” he told the News & Star. “That’s in terms of us having a top young goalkeeper, and that if someone does want him, it's got to be right for us and we've got to make sure we're in a position where we can have adequate replacements or not if we decide to keep Gabe.” At a press conference on Tuesday, Elliot was asked by BBC Radio Cumbria if Desbois was a target in the event of Breeze departing. The News & Star understands the Gateshead No1 is indeed in Carlisle’s sights. Elliot did not confirm or deny this, whilst describing Desbois as a “brilliant keeper”. The Blues boss signed Desbois at Gateshead in March, and the 25-year-old is contracted at the north east club until the end of this season. “I think every player I've ever had at Gateshead is linked with the club,” Elliot added. “Adam's a brilliant keeper, he did fantastic for us last year and I think he's been linked with a lot of clubs, I don't think it's just us he has been linked with. I'm not a social media guy so I wouldn't see anything that goes on. “I think first thing's first is whatever happens with Gabe, we'll see what happens in that situation and then we'll evolve it from that.” Elliot said Breeze has continued to train as normal in the wake of a knee injury that kept him out of certain pre-season games. Further asked if United are ready to move for a replacement should Breeze’s departure be confirmed, Elliot said United’s recruitment department, including recruitment analyst Jacob Blain, are always working hard on targets. “He [Blain] will be working hard to make sure that in every position we have options because football can change with a kick of a ball," he said. “I feel quite comfortable with what we're doing, but also quite comfortable in that we've got Archie [Mair] in the building who played on Saturday, and Gabe.” League standing: 16th in National League, 0 pts, 0W-0D-1L from 1 games, recent form L.
