Former Carlisle United manager Roddy Collins has joined Ebbsfleet United as a football advisor. Collins, who managed Carlisle from 2001 to 2003, will help the new ownership group at Ebbsfleet, who are currently struggling financially. The 66-year-old said he will be analysing how the club got into such a worrying financial predicament in the recent past. He said in due course he will become 'an integral part of the club' in its everyday business, as a conduit between areas of the club and the owners. 'I don't need titles,' he added, explaining that his role will be wide-ranging. The takeover came after Ebbsfleet saw their first three games of the season suspended over their financial problems. The club had also been placed under a transfer embargo, but a statement confirming O'Leary's takeover said that funds had since been transferred to the club to settle HMRC and football creditors. Collins met Ebbsfleet fans this week and said he is ambitious to see the club grow, but first he intends to look at the club's finances, and put together a plan to ensure past problems do not happen again. He said he brings a wealth of experience to Ebbsfleet through various managerial roles, including his stint at Carlisle from 2001 to 2003. 'Unfortunately I took on the establishment and lost,' he said, by way of explaining how his managerial career eventually faded. His other managerial clubs have included spells at Bohemians, Dublin City, Shamrock Rovers, Floriana, Cork City, Monaghan United, Athlone Town, Derry City and Waterford United. Collins has also worked as a plasterer during spells out of the game, while he is an outspoken pundit in Ireland. By way of emphasising his impact in changing times at clubs, he also referred to his part in the Carlisle takeover of 2002, saying: 'I got the sale of Carlisle over the line. I brought three people in to buy it. The one who bought it [John Courtenay], I brought him in.' League standing: 17th in National League, 1 pts, 0W-1D-1L from 2 games, recent form DL. Goals this season: 3 scored, 4 conceded (-1 goal difference). Title race: 5 points behind leaders Harrogate Town. Next fixture: vs Eastleigh (at home, 2027-02-20) (12th in the table).
