Former Carlisle United academy player Ryan Carr has earned a call-up to Scotland's Under-21 squad. The 21-year-old midfielder is in line for his first taste of international football next month.
Carr, who now plays for St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, left Carlisle's youth setup for Ipswich Town in January 2023. He moved north of the border this past summer and has already made ten appearances for his new club, including matches against Celtic and Rangers. His selection for the young Scots highlights the talent developed at Brunton Park, even as the first team currently sits 15th in the National League with 10 points from eight games.
Scotland's Under-21s face Azerbaijan on September 30 and Bulgaria on October 6 in UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifiers. The squad announcement also includes Dan Armer, an 18-year-old left-sided defender who captains Manchester United's under-21s and is the younger brother of former Carlisle defender Jack Armer, now at Burton Albion.
Carlisle's recent form has been mixed, with one win, three draws and one loss in their last five outings. The call-up for Carr is a positive note for the club's academy as the senior side prepares for its next National League match.
