Carlisle United legends David Reeves and Mick Wadsworth are returning to the city for a special event later this month. The 'An Evening with Mick Wadsworth and David Reeves' event will be held at the Harraby Catholic Club on Friday, September 25.
Hosted by former BBC Radio Cumbria commentator Nick Barnes, the night will include a question-and-answer session and an auction of memorabilia. All proceeds will support mental health charities. Tickets are priced at £10 via Skiddle and include a pie and peas supper, with the show starting at 7pm.
Mick Wadsworth's time as manager is remembered as a golden era for the Blues. He took charge for the 1994/95 season, leading the club to the Division Three title and their first-ever appearance at Wembley. Wadsworth, now 75, described that period as career-defining. "It was my first chance at Football League management," he said, thanking former owner Michael Knighton for the opportunity. He also credited the work of youth coach David Wilkes and his department for contributing significantly to the team's success.
A key part of that success was striker David Reeves, who Wadsworth persuaded Knighton to sign from Notts County's reserves in the autumn of 1993 for a club-record £121,000. Reeves later became team captain following Simon Davey's departure. Wadsworth praised his former player's character. "Reevesy is a great character. He’s now having a very successful life as an agent and I’m not surprised he’s doing well, because he’s an honest dude," Wadsworth said.
The evening will also serve as a tribute to key figures from that triumphant 1994/95 squad who have since passed away. This includes midfielder Tony Hopper, physio Peter Hampton, and the influential youth coach David Wilkes. Their contributions to a historic period for Carlisle United will be honoured, ensuring their legacy remains part of the club's story.
The event comes as the current Carlisle United side handle its own challenges in the National League. As of this week, the Blues sit 14th in the standings, having taken eight points from their first six matches. Their record shows two wins, two draws, and two losses, with a recent form guide reading LWDWD. Offensively, they have found the net 13 times while conceding 10, giving them a positive goal difference of three. However, they currently trail league leaders Boreham Wood by eight points in the early title race.
Fans can secure their £10 ticket through the Skiddle platform, which covers entry and the pie and peas supper. The Harraby Catholic Club will open its doors for the 7pm start. For those wanting to see the modern-day Blues in action, the full squad and season statistics are available online. The event promises a night of nostalgia, celebrating a defining chapter in Carlisle United's history while supporting a vital cause.
